Hibernian appoint Marink Reedijk to replace David Gray

Hibernian have appointed Marink Reedijk as their new manager, bringing in the former Beveren coach to replace David Gray after a difficult start to the Scottish Premiership season. BBC Sport Scotland reported that the Dutchman takes charge eight days after Gray's dismissal, with Hibs sitting 10th in the table after seven league matches.

Reedijk arrives following two seasons at Beveren, where he led the Belgian side to promotion with an unbeaten league campaign before departing in the summer. His coaching background includes academy work at Ajax and West Bromwich Albion, along with senior roles at KSV Roeselare, Vitesse and RSCA Futures. Rogier Molhoek will assist him at Easter Road.

The new manager inherits a team with two league wins this season and a Conference League elimination already behind it. Gray had guided Hibs to third place in 2024-25 and fifth last season. He also secured a place in November's League Cup semi-finals, setting up a meeting with Edinburgh rivals Hearts that remains on the club's schedule.

In comments reported separately by the BBC, Reedijk said the club's ambition and clearly defined aims had helped persuade him to accept the position. He described a desire for his players to take the initiative, compete with intensity and give supporters a team they could support enthusiastically. He also acknowledged the work already done with the squad.

Reedijk identified getting to know his players as his immediate priority, alongside building on the existing foundations and preparing for Dundee United. He said he saw both ability and room for development in the group. His opening remarks focused on establishing relationships and preparing the team, rather than presenting the appointment as a need to start again.

Chairman Ian Gordon, in further comments carried by the BBC, pledged continued investment in the team and said Reedijk had emerged as the strongest candidate during the recruitment process. Sporting director Malky Mackay highlighted the coach's approach to developing players and fostering teamwork. Mackay said the appointment was intended to advance Hibernian's existing football strategy, rather than replace its direction.
