Hibernian appoint Marink Reedijk after unbeaten promotion campaign at Beveren

Hibernian have appointed Marink Reedijk as manager after the Dutch coach left Beveren in Belgium, BBC Sport Scotland reported. The 35-year-old succeeds David Gray, who was dismissed eight days before the appointment following a difficult opening to the season. Rogier Molhoek will join Reedijk as his assistant at Easter Road.

Reedijk arrives after two seasons with Beveren, where he secured promotion to the Belgian top flight last season without losing a league match. His earlier coaching experience includes academy positions at Ajax and West Bromwich Albion, alongside work with the senior teams at KSV Roeselare, Vitesse and RSCA Futures. Hibernian pointed to his attacking approach and record of developing a strong team culture when announcing the move.

The immediate league situation is less encouraging for his new club. Hibernian are 10th in the Scottish Premiership, having won two of their first seven matches, and have also been eliminated from the Conference League. Reedijk therefore takes over with domestic results needing improvement after a start that brought Gray's tenure to an end.

Gray's departure followed a spell that included third place in the 2024-25 Premiership and fifth last season. He also took Hibernian into the League Cup semi-finals before being dismissed. That competition remains an opportunity for the new management team: Hibs are due to meet Edinburgh rivals Hearts in the last four in November.

Reedijk said the club's ambition and clear sense of direction helped persuade him to accept the position. He described his intention to build an assertive side whose effort and purposeful football would give supporters a team to rally behind. The new manager also expressed his appreciation for the appointment, with his stated priorities centred on both playing style and commitment.

Sporting director Malky Mackay presented the choice as a continuation of Hibernian's football strategy, rather than a change of course. In comments reported by the BBC, he said Reedijk's approach to coaching, player development and leadership matched the qualities the club had sought. Mackay highlighted the energy of Reedijk's teams and his ability to improve individuals while building a cohesive group.
