Henderson and João Pedro doubles power Chelsea past Bournemouth
Chelsea beat Bournemouth 5–1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Jordan Henderson and João Pedro each scoring twice in a Premier League victory. Morgan Rogers supplied the other Chelsea goal. The Guardian reported that the result lifted Xabi Alonso's side to fifth and brought their first league win in four matches.
Watch the highlights:
Henderson made an immediate impact on his home debut, opening the scoring in the second minute before providing the assist for Rogers to make it 2–0 a minute later. FotMob's match record credits Cole Palmer with setting up the opener. Chelsea took that two-goal advantage into half-time, with Bournemouth still seeking a response.
João Pedro extended the lead in the 46th minute from a Pedro Neto assist, giving Chelsea another quick start after the interval. Evanilson replied for Bournemouth in the 51st minute, reducing the deficit to 3–1. His goal interrupted Chelsea's scoring run but proved to be the visitors' only goal of the afternoon.
The home side added two more goals before the final 20 minutes. João Pedro completed his double in the 67th minute, with Pep Chavarría supplying the assist, according to FotMob. Henderson then converted a direct free-kick in the 70th minute to complete the scoring and secure his own second goal.
For Henderson, the performance combined two goals with a direct role in a third. The Guardian highlighted the 36-year-old's contribution after his move from Brentford, describing a home debut in which the former Liverpool captain was central to Chelsea's victory. His early goal and later free-kick came either side of João Pedro's second-half double.
The result also followed a significant development for Palmer, who had signed a new Chelsea contract running until 2034. BBC Sport reported that the agreement improved his terms and added a year to his previous deal, recognising his importance to the attack. The contract announcement and his assist against Bournemouth made it an eventful day for the England international, although the goalscoring honours belonged to Henderson, João Pedro and Rogers.
