Harry Brook hits 202 to set fastest ODI double-century record
Harry Brook became England's first ODI double-centurion with 202 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. His 114-ball double hundred helped England reach 429-4, the highest ODI total recorded in Pakistan.

Harry Brook scored 202 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on Thursday, becoming the first England batter to reach a double century in a one-day international. According to BBC Sport, the England captain also set a new speed record for the milestone, reaching 200 from 114 deliveries as his side finished their 50 overs on 429-4 in the tri-series match.

Watch the highlights:

Brook surpassed the previous England individual record of 182, set by Ben Stokes against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023. His double century required three fewer balls than Shubman Gill's 117-ball effort for India against West Indies last month. The BBC reported that England's total was also the highest recorded in an ODI played in Pakistan.

The innings developed from a relatively quiet beginning. Brook had 13 runs after facing 24 deliveries before reaching his half-century from 42 balls. His fourth ODI hundred arrived from 75 deliveries, and he then needed just 39 more to move from 100 to 200. He finished with 21 fours and 10 sixes across a 116-ball innings.

Tom Banton contributed 50 and fellow opener Ben Duckett made 29 before Brook and Joe Root put on 159 for the third wicket. Root was caught for 69, after which England moved Will Jacks up to number five. Jacks reached his own half-century in 25 deliveries and ended unbeaten on 66, helping maintain the scoring rate alongside his captain.

England scored 156 runs in the final 10 overs. Brook moved beyond Stokes' record by hitting a Dilshan Madushanka full toss for six and was subsequently dropped at mid-off on 185. He entered the last over on 186, struck Janith Liyanage's first delivery for six and later brought up his double century with a paddled sweep. He was caught at third man from the innings' final ball.

The performance followed England's defeat by Pakistan at the same ground in Tuesday's tri-series opener. Brook had called for a more positive approach from his batters after that loss, the BBC reported. His 202 also became the highest ODI score by a non-opening batter and the 14th double century in men's ODI cricket. Those landmarks were established in England's innings; the source report did not provide a completed match result.
