Harmer takes six as South Africa beat Australia to seal Test series
Simon Harmer claimed career-best figures of 6-16 as South Africa dismissed Australia for 111 in Cape Town. The 176-run victory secured the Test series and returned the hosts to the top of the world rankings.

South Africa won the third Test against Australia by 176 runs in Cape Town, securing the series after the tourists collapsed to 111 on the final day. According to BBC Sport, spinner Simon Harmer finished with career-best figures of 6-16, while Kagiso Rabada took 3-39 in a victory that restored South Africa to the top of the world rankings.

Watch the highlights:

Australia began their pursuit of 288 with a chance to win the match, but Rabada removed both Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne in the opening over. Renshaw was caught down the leg side from the second ball, and Labuschagne was dismissed leaving the ball. Rabada subsequently had Travis Head caught at slip, completing a damaging opening spell. BBC Sport reported that he also became the fastest bowler to reach 350 Test wickets.

The visitors were 40-3 before another setback came through a running error. Cameron Green called Josh Inglis for a run, and Inglis was run out for four. Harmer then dismissed Alex Carey, caught attempting a reverse sweep for two, and Cooper Connolly, caught behind without scoring from his second delivery. By lunch, Australia were 60-7, with their prospects of completing the chase effectively extinguished.

Australia adopted a much more defensive approach after the interval. Captain Pat Cummins faced 40 balls before getting off the mark, while the innings included a 50-minute period with only one scoring shot. Green, who had been dropped on 10 and survived until lunch, was eventually bowled by Harmer. Nathan Lyon offered resistance from number 10, finishing unbeaten on 33 as Australia's highest scorer, but Harmer claimed the final wicket to complete the win.

The collapse followed an Australian first innings of 429, which had given them a 100-run advantage over South Africa's 329. The hosts responded with 387, including 115 from Wiaan Mulder and 101 from Ryan Rickelton, to set the fourth-innings target. Those centuries helped put South Africa in a position to win despite having trailed at the halfway stage of the match.

Former Australia opener David Warner criticised the batting performance while speaking on Fox Sports, with his comments reported by the BBC. He argued that the batters had failed to support their bowlers throughout the series. Australia now turn towards four home Tests against New Zealand starting in December, following a defeat in which their final-day batting could not withstand South Africa's pace-and-spin combination.
