Hannah Klugman wins Wrexham W100 title without dropping a set
Hannah Klugman beat Elsa Jacquemot 6-2, 6-4 to claim the biggest title of her career at 17. Freya Christie and Eden Silva completed a successful day for British players by winning the doubles final.

Hannah Klugman claimed the biggest title of her career on Sunday, defeating France’s Elsa Jacquemot 6-2, 6-4 in the Lexus Wrexham Open final. The 17-year-old British player completed the W100 tournament without losing a set. BBC Sport reported that she became the youngest Briton to win a singles title at W100 level or above.

Watch the highlights:

Klugman put Jacquemot under pressure from the opening game. Although she did not convert her first two break-point chances, she broke in the third game and added another break on her way to taking the first set. Her early control continued into the second set, when she built a 5-1 advantage and moved within one game of the championship.

The finish proved more demanding. Jacquemot recovered to 5-4, forcing Klugman to regroup before serving out the match on her second attempt. In comments reported by BBC Sport, Klugman described feeling shaky afterwards but happy and proud of her achievement. The victory made her the second consecutive British singles champion in Wrexham, following Mimi Xu’s success last year.

The LTA said the final lasted one hour and 23 minutes and was played before a full crowd at the Carden Park Arena at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre. Jacquemot had also progressed through her four previous matches without conceding a set. Klugman’s victory therefore ended the French player’s own unbeaten run through the tournament’s earlier rounds.

The title follows another recent milestone for Klugman. The LTA reported in September that she won her first World Tennis Tour singles trophy at the W50 event in Leiria, Portugal, beating Linda Fruhvirtova 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the final. She had also recorded her first WTA Tour match victory at Nottingham in June, adding earlier professional success to the background of her breakthrough in Wrexham.

British players also won the doubles title on Sunday. Freya Christie and Eden Silva defeated Japan’s Hiroko Kuwata and India’s Ankita Raina 6-2, 6-3. According to the LTA, the final took one hour and five minutes and gave Christie and Silva their fifth World Tennis Tour title together this year, completing the home players’ sweep of the two finals.
