Hammarby eliminate Rangers from Europa Cup with 5-0 aggregate win
Rangers were eliminated from the women's Europa Cup after Hammarby won 3-0 at Broadwood Stadium to complete a 5-0 aggregate victory. According to BBC Sport Scotland's match report, Anna Walter, Ida Hermannsdottir and Fanny Peterson scored for the Swedish visitors, who had reached the final of the competition last season.
Watch the highlights:
Hammarby arrived with a two-goal advantage from the first leg and increased that cushion after just 13 minutes. Defender Mathilde Janzen supplied the pass that sent Walter through, and the midfielder finished past Rangers goalkeeper Jenna Fife. The opening goal left the home side needing to overturn a three-goal deficit across the two matches.
Rangers produced their first attempt of note in the 21st minute, when Laura Berry shot directly at Cajsa Andersson in the Hammarby goal. The visitors also had opportunities to make the score more emphatic before half-time. Hermannsdottir and Elin Sorum both missed from close range, leaving Hammarby one goal ahead on the night at the interval.
The Scottish Women's Premier League leaders had possession but struggled to translate it into further chances. BBC Sport reported that their next threat did not come until the 58th minute, when Berry again sent an effort straight at Andersson. Rangers still had not scored in either leg, while Hammarby's first-half advantage remained intact.
Two minutes after that Rangers opportunity, Hermannsdottir scored Hammarby's second. The Icelandic striker ran on to a through ball and finished to extend the aggregate lead to four goals. Peterson then completed the scoring, following up when Fife parried Svea Rehnberg's close-range attempt. The 16-year-old midfielder had also scored in the first leg, contributing a goal in each match.
Hammarby advanced having kept Rangers scoreless over the tie. The Swedish club, runners-up in their domestic league last season, were sitting second in the 2026 standings. Rangers' exit also brought Scotland's involvement in this season's Europa Cup to an end: Scottish champions Heart of Midlothian had already been knocked out by Real Sociedad earlier in the evening.
