Haaland strikes late as Manchester City beat Leipzig 3-2
Erling Haaland settled a five-goal Champions League match after Leipzig twice equalised. Manchester City secured their third win in four league-phase games.

Erling Haaland scored in the 78th minute as Manchester City beat RB Leipzig 3-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 4. Wearing the captain's armband, the striker converted Elliot Anderson's delivery to settle a match in which Leipzig had twice equalised. City's official report said the victory was their third from four games in this season's competition.

Watch the highlights:

Leipzig entered the contest having won all five of their previous home matches without conceding, according to City. That record ended before half-time when Nico O'Reilly's cross was diverted into his own net by Castello Lukeba. The 37th-minute own goal gave the visitors a lead after Leipzig had created danger through Antonio Nusa and David Raum, the Bundesliga's match report said.

The hosts responded early in the second half. Christoph Baumgartner tested Gianluigi Donnarumma before Ridle Baku scored from a narrow angle on the right in the 49th minute, with Brajan Gruda providing the assist. Leipzig were level, but City regained the advantage nine minutes later when Enzo Fernandez met Iliman Ndiaye's cross with a header.

That second lead lasted only three minutes. Substitute Christopher Nkunku supplied Nusa, whose finish into the bottom corner made it 2-2 in the 61st minute. The Bundesliga report recorded another shift in the contest when Haaland slid in to finish Anderson's ball across the penalty area, putting City ahead for the third and final time.

There was still time for chances at both ends. Raum hit the crossbar with a free-kick and Rayan Cherki also struck the woodwork, while a late Gruda effort was disallowed for offside. City's account also described a further save by Maarten Vandevoordt from Haaland and a Jeremy Doku shot over the bar before the final whistle.

City said the result moved them into seventh place in the league-phase standings, where the top eight finishers advance directly to the round of 16. Haaland's winner took him to 13 goals in nine appearances against Leipzig and 62 in 61 Champions League appearances, according to the club. Leipzig, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat in four league-phase matches, the Bundesliga reported.
