Greaves Makes History as First Woman to Win PDC Ranking Title
Lisa Greaves has made history by becoming the first woman ever to win a Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) ranking title, in what many are describing as a watershed moment for the sport of darts.
The 34-year-old from Sheffield produced a stunning display throughout the tournament, defeating a series of seeded male players before overcoming Michael van Gerwen in a thrilling final. Greaves averaged over 101 in the decisive leg of her semi-final clash and maintained that exceptional form to claim the title.
"I knew I could compete at this level, but to actually go out there and win is incredible," Greaves said after her victory. "The support has been amazing, and I hope this opens doors for more women to believe they can compete on the biggest stage."
The PDC has faced criticism in recent years for its lack of female representation at the top level, with most women's tournaments operating separately from the main tour. However, Greaves's achievement has sparked renewed debate about potential integration and merit-based qualification pathways.
PDC chief executive Matt Porter praised Greaves's performance, stating: "Lisa has proven that talent knows no gender boundaries. This is a momentous occasion for darts, and we will be reviewing our policies to ensure we provide equal opportunities."
The victory also comes with significant financial reward, as Greaves secures a two-year tour card worth approximately £85,000 per year, along with entry into all major PDC events. This automatically qualifies her for the World Championship, World Matchplay, and all other prestigious tournaments.
Fellow professionals have been quick to congratulate Greaves, with multiple top-ranked players acknowledging her achievement on social media. Former world champion Dennis Priestley commented: "This is exactly what the sport needed. Lisa has shown incredible courage and skill. She belongs on that stage."
The historic win has already generated significant media attention and is expected to boost interest in women's darts ahead of the upcoming Lakeside Championship, where Greaves will look to add another title to her growing resume.
