Grant sends Charlton top as perfect Championship start continues

Charlton Athletic moved to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 victory over Preston North End on Saturday, extending their perfect start to three league matches. The Guardian reported that Karlan Grant scored the decisive goal, his first for the Addicks since returning to the club on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion.

The result left Charlton as the division's only team with a 100% record. According to The Guardian, it is the first time the south London club have won their opening three matches of a second-tier campaign since 1992-93. Preston, meanwhile, remain without a point after a difficult opening to the season.

Millwall had also begun the day with two wins but lost 5-1 at Southampton after initially going ahead through Mark Sykes. Cyle Larin scored twice for Southampton, while Finn Azaz added a tap-in, Leo Scienza converted a penalty and Tom Fellows registered his first goal for the club. The victory also erased Southampton's four-point deduction, The Guardian reported.

Wolverhampton Wanderers climbed to second by beating Stoke City 4-1 at Molineux. Sam Gallagher gave Stoke a second-minute lead, but Rodrigo Gomes scored twice in three minutes to turn the match before halftime. Raul Jimenez converted a penalty in the 55th minute, and substitute Jordan James completed the scoring on his home debut with six minutes remaining.

Swansea City also stayed unbeaten, winning 3-0 at Derby County through goals from Joseph Opoku, Eom Ji-sung and Ronald. Swansea finished the day third on goal difference behind Wolves, with both sides taking seven points from their first three games. Derby are still waiting for their first league victory. Middlesbrough continued their strong opening with a 3-1 home win over West Brom, as Will Lankshear scored twice and Alfie Jones added a late third.

Elsewhere, Norwich City earned their first Championship points of the season with a 4-1 home victory over Burnley. Norwich struck twice in the opening five minutes, and Mo Toure and Andre Brooks each finished with two goals. The result followed defeats in the Canaries' first two league fixtures and left Burnley still searching for momentum after a difficult start.
