Glasner promises changes after Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 2-0
Oliver Glasner promised changes at Nottingham Forest after a 2-0 defeat at Brentford left his side with four losses in their past five games. According to The Guardian’s match report, the Forest manager accepted responsibility for the results and said he would adopt a firmer approach, while insisting that his players had not lacked effort.
Watch the highlights:
Brentford took the lead through a Nikola Milenkovic own goal after Murillo misjudged a long clearance towards Dango Ouattara. Their second was credited to Igor Thiago, who met Jaydon Anthony’s low cross, with the ball again going in off Milenkovic. Both goals came despite Forest creating more opportunities than their hosts, adding to the visitors’ frustration over their inability to turn promising passages into results.
Glasner identified the opening goal as part of a recurring defensive problem. He said it was the fourth goal Forest had conceded from a goalkeeper’s long ball and pointed to awareness and the failure to win the ensuing duel. He also said opponents were consistently outrunning his team, making clear that he expected improvement in areas beyond their play with the ball.
The manager said he needed to get more from the squad and would change his approach after concluding that his previous support had not produced the required response. As one example of the standards he intended to enforce, Glasner revealed that he had refused a player’s request to travel home separately from London, requiring him to return to Nottingham on the team coach instead.
Forest’s difficulties in front of goal continued. Opta figures included in The Guardian’s report showed that they have failed to score in five of their nine Premier League matches this season, a total no other side had exceeded. That record contrasted with their expected-goals performance: Forest had recorded a higher figure than their opponents in seven of those nine matches, without consistently translating those opportunities into goals.
Brentford manager Keith Andrews described the victory as his side’s best of the season, praising the players’ decision-making and leadership. It was their first win since beating Chelsea before the previous international break. Brentford have now scored first in eight of their past nine Premier League games, while Forest were left to address both their finishing and the defensive mistakes highlighted by Glasner.
