Gibson-Park sets up three tries as Leinster rally to beat Munster 24-18
Leinster recovered from 13-0 down to defeat Munster 24-18 at Aviva Stadium, securing a try bonus point in their United Rugby Championship derby. According to BBC Sport's match report, returning scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park created three of the hosts' four tries as they took control after the interval. Munster salvaged a losing bonus point through Ben O'Connor's final-minute try.
Watch the highlights:
Munster established their advantage through Shane Daly and the kicking of 20-year-old fly-half Charlie O'Shea. An early O'Shea penalty followed James Ryan's high tackle on Kieran Brookes, before O'Shea, Sean O'Brien and Craig Casey helped create Daly's opening try. O'Shea also converted and struck another penalty from inside his own half after Alex Nankivell won a turnover, taking his first-half contribution to eight points.
Gibson-Park gave Leinster a route back before half-time. From a scrum near Munster's line, he found Tommy O'Brien with a pass that allowed the winger to beat O'Connor and score. That left the home side trailing 13-5 at the break, with Munster still holding the advantage built during their stronger opening spell.
The second-half turnaround began after a Munster penalty was reversed for a late tackle by Brookes. Leinster gained territory and eventually sent Ryan Baird over following prolonged pressure. Nankivell was shown a yellow card after repeated Munster infringements during the build-up. Joey Carbery added the conversion to reduce the deficit to one point, putting Leinster within reach of the lead for the first time.
While Nankivell was off the field, Munster lost a line-out and Leinster turned the possession into another scoring opportunity. Gibson-Park supplied Charlie Tector for the try that put the hosts ahead with 16 minutes remaining. A lengthy stoppage followed an injury to Daly, before Gibson-Park set up Jamie Osborne with eight minutes left. Osborne's try delivered Leinster's fourth score and the attacking bonus point.
O'Connor's late response ended Munster's scoring drought, which had stretched back to the 29th minute, and brought them within seven points. Leinster next host Connacht on Friday in another interprovincial contest, while Munster welcome the Sharks to Thomond Park on Saturday. The fixtures follow a derby in which Leinster overturned Munster's early advantage and both teams finished with a bonus point.
