Frank Warren Sets Next-Week Deadline for Fury-Joshua Decision

Promoter Frank Warren says the proposed heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua remains unsigned, with negotiations approaching a decision point. The Guardian reported on Wednesday that Warren expects the talks to be resolved by the end of next week, although he acknowledged that the long-discussed bout may still fail to materialize.

Warren, who promotes Fury, said the parties are discussing a revised contract for a fight in New York. He indicated that November is the likely timing if an agreement is completed and said the event would probably be staged in the United States. No deal, venue or date has been formally confirmed.

According to Warren, Fury traveled to Miami over the weekend and is training for a November return. The promoter said Fury intends to fight that month whether Joshua is the opponent or not, leaving an alternative opponent as the fallback if the negotiations end without an agreement.

The talks have been complicated by the proposed move from Britain to the United States. Warren said Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn are seeking more money from Zuffa Boxing, the US promoter, after the change in location. He did not provide financial figures and said he did not know the current monetary position, so the commercial terms remain unclear.

Warren also said both fighters had signed a contract in January for the contest to take place in Britain. He attributed the delay to Joshua’s car accident in Nigeria. Discussing Joshua’s readiness, Warren referred to the former champion’s bout against Kristian Prenga last month, when Joshua was knocked down twice in the first round before coming through the fight. Warren nevertheless said only Joshua can determine whether he wants to proceed.

For now, the most concrete development is a deadline described by Fury’s promoter, not a completed booking. Warren expressed confidence that Fury will box in November, but he stopped short of confirming Joshua as the opponent. Unless the revised terms are accepted, the matchup could again be postponed or abandoned while Fury moves to another fight.
