Fury and Joshua fight confirmed for Cardiff on 11 December

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will fight at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on 11 December, with Netflix set to broadcast the heavyweight contest worldwide, BBC Sport reported. The announcement confirms the date and venue for a meeting between the British former world champions after years of unsuccessful attempts to bring them together in the ring.

The fighters had signed contracts earlier this year, but the location and timing remained unresolved. According to BBC Sport, Wembley Stadium in London and Madison Square Garden in New York had been leading options before problems with both opened the way for Cardiff. Joshua had wanted the contest to be held in Britain, and the Welsh venue delivers that outcome.

The precise start time is still uncertain. BBC Sport understands organisers are considering a schedule designed to reach viewers in the United States, which could put the main event in the early hours of Saturday morning in the UK. Although the event is announced for 11 December, that possibility means the fighters could enter the ring after midnight locally. No final main-event time was confirmed in the report.

The promotion brings together Turki Alalshikh's The Ring and UFC chief Dana White. Both publicly welcomed the announcement. White highlighted the fighters' combined total of 66 wins and 52 knockouts, alongside their multiple heavyweight world titles. BBC Sport also noted that the official Netflix news release did not include statements from Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn or Fury's promoter Frank Warren, while Hearn separately thanked the British public for supporting Joshua.

Joshua and Fury are scheduled to appear together at a London news conference on Wednesday, 30 September. The confirmed arrangements follow several earlier negotiations that failed to produce a fight. Their camps agreed the basis of a two-bout deal in 2020, and contracts followed in 2021, but Deontay Wilder's successful arbitration case required Fury to face the American again. Another attempt in 2022 also collapsed.

Welsh Rugby Union and Cardiff Council officials welcomed the event and pointed to its potential economic benefits, though BBC Sport reported that some operational arrangements remain unfinished. The stadium has experience of boxing after midnight: Joe Calzaghe's November 2007 bout with Mikkel Kessler began at 01:00 GMT. That precedent provides a practical reference as organisers consider the schedule for December's contest.
