Freya Kemp agrees Surrey move from Hampshire for 2027

Freya Kemp will move from Hampshire to Surrey for the 2027 season after agreeing a multi-year contract, BBC Sport reported. The England all-rounder, 21, joins following an international campaign that included an appearance in the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup final. Surrey have not announced the precise length of her deal at the Kia Oval.

The left-arm seamer has made 49 appearances for England, with contributions in both disciplines. According to the BBC's report, she has scored 585 international runs from 36 innings and taken 36 wickets across the two formats. Those figures form part of the international experience she will bring to Surrey alongside her domestic and franchise career.

Kemp's performances at the 2026 T20 World Cup included a batting average of 45 and a strike rate of 157.89. With the ball, she returned 4-22 against Sri Lanka in England's opening match, figures the BBC described as the team's best at the tournament. Her move follows a season in which she contributed with bat and ball on the international stage.

Explaining the decision in comments to Surrey's website carried by the BBC, Kemp pointed to the quality of the squad and the chance to play closer to home. She also credited Hampshire with helping her development and made clear that leaving had been a difficult choice. The move will take effect next season, rather than immediately.

Kemp's domestic career began at Sussex, where she made her Women's T20 Cup debut at 14. She subsequently represented Southern Vipers and Hampshire. Her franchise experience includes spells with Welsh Fire and Southern Brave in The Hundred, as well as Perth Scorchers in Australia's Women's Big Bash League, giving her experience of several different teams and competitions before this latest move.

Surrey director of women's cricket Emma Calvert highlighted that breadth of experience when welcoming the signing. In comments reported by the BBC, she praised Kemp's international promise, character and work ethic, saying those qualities would benefit the club on and off the field. The agreement secures Kemp's switch for 2027, while its exact duration remains undisclosed.
