Forfar’s Adam Livingstone Avoids Major Damage After Neck Injury

Forfar Athletic defender Adam Livingstone has not suffered major damage after sustaining a neck injury during Tuesday’s abandoned Challenge Cup match against Formartine United. The Scottish League Two club said on Wednesday that X-ray results had provided encouraging news after Livingstone was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

BBC Sport reported that Livingstone remained in hospital overnight following the incident. Forfar said he could be allowed home later on Wednesday if his recovery continued as expected. The club’s update stopped short of giving a timetable for his return to football, and no further diagnosis was announced.

The injury occurred in an aerial collision early in the second half at Station Park. Livingstone received treatment on the pitch while an ambulance was awaited, with Forfar initially describing him as awake and responsive. The Courier reported that the club said the collision had affected the defender’s neck and spine before the later hospital assessment found no major damage.

The match was halted with Forfar leading 1-0. Sky Sports’ live record lists the injury delay in the 49th minute and the abandonment after play had reached the hour mark. Angus Mailer had put Forfar ahead in the 18th minute, while the home side were reduced to 10 players when Mackenzie Lemon received a second yellow card in the 34th minute. Formartine’s Tyler Mykyta then had the resulting penalty saved by Forfar goalkeeper Neil Stafford.

Livingstone joined Forfar during the summer on a one-year deal after leaving Dumbarton. The club announced the signing of the left-back in June, and he started Tuesday’s cup fixture as part of Forfar’s defence. The match was a first-round tie in the Scottish Challenge Cup, also known this season as the KDM Evolution Trophy.

Formartine issued its own message after the abandonment, offering Livingstone its best wishes and hoping for a full recovery. Forfar’s subsequent medical update eased the immediate concern, but the club has not said when the defender will be cleared to resume training or playing. The fixture ended without a completed result after the injury brought the second half to a premature close.
