Nottingham Forest moved within touching distance of Premier League survival after a stunning 5-1 thrashing of Sunderland at the City Ground on Friday afternoon. The victory, Forest's biggest of the season, sends Nuno Espirito Santo's side eight points clear of the bottom three with just four matches remaining. Goals from Elliot Anderson, Chris Wood, Anthony Elanga, and a double from Morgan Gibbs-White completed the rout, with only Chris Rigg's late consolation separating the teams.

The result marks Forest's third consecutive home win and provides crucial goal difference relief, with the club now sitting 14th in the table on 41 points. With away fixtures at Manchester United and Liverpool still to come, the three points could prove invaluable when the season concludes in May.

Gibbs-White, who was outstanding throughout, opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a curling effort into the far corner. "We've been working so hard in training, and today everything clicked," the 25-year-old said. "The fans were incredible, and we wanted to give them something to celebrate. This is just one game, but we have to keep this momentum going."

Wood doubled the lead three minutes later, converting from close range after excellent work from Callum Hudson-Odoi down the right flank. Anderson made it 3-0 before halftime with a long-range strike that caught out Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. The visitors offered little resistance in the second half as Elanga and Gibbs-White added further goals to leave Sunderland's European qualification hopes in tatters.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris acknowledged his side's poor display: "We were never at the races. Forest were sharper, hungrier, and more organized. It's a difficult result to take, but we must respond quickly. There are still points to play for." Sunderland remain eighth in the table, four points off the European qualification places.
