Five Cambuur Fans Injured in Fireworks Incident at Feyenoord Match

Five SC Cambuur supporters were injured after fireworks were fired during Sunday’s Eredivisie match against Feyenoord at Kooi Stadium in Leeuwarden. According to an official Cambuur statement issued after the game, the injured supporters suffered burns, hearing damage and eye injuries. The club did not publish their identities or provide detailed medical updates, leaving the precise severity of each injury unclear.

The incident began in the 12th minute of the match. Cambuur said fireworks were set off on a large scale from the away section occupied by Feyenoord supporters, with some fired toward the pitch and the surrounding stands. The club described the conduct as unacceptable and said pyrotechnics have no place inside a football stadium.

Cambuur reported that the match was halted for about 10 minutes before being restarted in line with Royal Dutch Football Association protocols and after consultation with the parties involved. The club’s match report said Feyenoord went on to win 5-2, but the fireworks incident and the injuries dominated its post-match coverage.

Feyenoord issued a separate statement distancing the club from the conduct in the away end. General manager Robert Eenhoorn expressed concern for the injured Cambuur supporters, while the Rotterdam club said it would request camera footage from Cambuur. Feyenoord added that any perpetrators identified through the footage could face stadium bans. The statement did not say that any individual had yet been identified.

Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst apologized to Cambuur and its supporters on behalf of his club, according to Feyenoord’s statement. Captain Luciano Valente also rejected the actions of those responsible. Feyenoord said the frustration surrounding the incident outweighed satisfaction with the team’s result.

Cambuur said it would work with the authorities to trace and punish those responsible. Neither club’s statement confirmed how the fireworks were brought into the stadium, and no arrests or formal disciplinary action had been announced in the material they released.
