Fitzpatrick Brothers Extend Lead to Four Strokes at Zurich Classic, Eyeing First PGA Tour Title as Team
American brothers Sean and Shane Fitzpatrick have put themselves in prime position to claim their first PGA Tour victory as a team, extending their lead to four strokes after the third round of the Zurich Classic in New Orleans. The siblings fired a 9-under-par 63 in the foursomes format at TPC Louisiana, maintaining their grip on the tournament despite fierce pressure from several chasing pairs. The Fitzpatricks, who have competed together in various amateur events throughout their careers, have shown remarkable chemistry throughout the week, converting crucial putts when it mattered most. Sean Fitzpatrick, the older brother at 28, emphasized their bond: "Playing with your brother brings a different kind of trust. When Shane drains a putt, I genuinely feel as happy as if I'd made it myself." Shane, 25, added: "We've dreamed about winning out here together since we were kids playing in the backyard. This weekend has been a culmination of that dream." The duo started the day with a three-stroke advantage and never let challengers get closer than four shots. Notable contenders include Australian pair Cameron Smith and Min Woo Lee, who sit five strokes back alongside British duo Aaron Rai and Tommy Fleetwood. The Zurich Classic, unique in its team format, sees 80 teams compete across four rounds using alternate shot and four-ball formats. Should the Fitzpatricks maintain their advantage in Sunday's final round, they would become the fourth American pair to win this event since its inception in 2018.
