Fire Devastates Rio Olympic Velodrome Roof in Major Blaze

A devastating fire swept through the iconic velodrome at Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park on Wednesday, sending dramatic flames and thick smoke billowing across the sports complex that once hosted cycling events during the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The massive blaze erupted in the late afternoon, completely engulfing the roof structure of the velodrome, one of the signature venues from Brazil's Olympic legacy. Rio Mayor Eduardo Silva expressed regret over the incident while promising a thorough investigation. "This velodrome represents an important part of our Olympic heritage. We will work to determine what happened and explore all options for restoration," Silva said in a statement.
