Finland to notify Fifa over Glen Kamara's return to QPR
Finland's football association intends to inform Fifa about Glen Kamara's departure from international duty after saying Queens Park Rangers required the midfielder to return to London, BBC Sport reported. The dispute leaves the 30-year-old's availability for Friday's Championship meeting with West Ham United uncertain, with any intervention by football's world governing body still to be determined.
Watch the highlights:
The Finnish federation said QPR withdrew Kamara before Tuesday's Uefa Nations League fixture against Hungary. Head coach Jacob Friis, in comments published on the association's website and reported by the BBC, said the club had insisted that Kamara leave the national-team camp. Friis described the player as having faced a difficult choice and made clear that Finland had not wanted him to depart.
The issue centres on the requirement for players released to their national teams to remain available throughout the international window, unless an early return is separately agreed. According to BBC Sport's account of Fifa's rules, a withdrawn player may also be prevented from playing for his club for five days after the window ends without the national association's consent. QPR's Friday fixture falls three days after the window closes.
Marco Casagrande, the Finnish association's general secretary, told the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper that the federation believed the regulations had not been fully followed. He said Fifa would be informed because Kamara had not been available for the entire international period. Casagrande left the question of any subsequent action to Fifa, rather than announcing a ruling on the midfielder's club eligibility.
QPR manager Julien Stephan said the club and the Finnish federation were discussing the situation. Speaking during his media duties ahead of the West Ham match, he said a decision would follow those talks. Kamara has started three of Rangers' eight Championship matches this season and appeared as a substitute in four. QPR are sixth in the table.
Kamara did not play in Finland's opening Nations League match against San Marino. He was taken off at half-time against Belarus, then introduced at half-time against Albania on Saturday. The Finnish association told BBC Sport that its immediate focus was Tuesday's match against Hungary.
