FIFA funding proposal would lift national associations to $25 million each
FIFA is preparing a $6.35 billion football development package for 2027-2030, with proposed allocations of $25 million for each of its 211 member associations. BBC Sport reported that the governing body intends to increase distributions using reserves following the commercial success of this summer's World Cup. The funding has not received final approval.
Watch the highlights:
The proposed national allocation would be $15 million above the $10 million previously planned for each association over the four-year cycle. Business Standard reported that India would be among the eligible members, but stressed that the figure is not a confirmed payment. Conditions governing access to the money and its release still have to be established.
The package extends beyond national federations. According to BBC Sport's breakdown, each of the six continental confederations would receive $99 million, while each of 13 regional or zonal associations would be allocated $8.25 million. A further provision would provide $1.1 million apiece to 100 member associations for travel and equipment support.
BBC Sport reported that the spending would be divided into three equal portions: women's and youth football development, infrastructure, and projects. Infrastructure supported by the programme would have to provide equal access for women's and youth football. Those proposed conditions make development priorities part of the distribution plan, alongside the larger headline allocations.
The proposal arrives amid scrutiny of FIFA president Gianni Infantino following the abandonment of the FIFA Forward Enterprise private-investment initiative. Business Standard reported that UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and Concacaf president Victor Montagliani had written to Infantino seeking distributions from reserves. Infantino is preparing to seek another presidential term in 2027, with the funding debate unfolding against that political backdrop.
Business Standard said the council would discuss the proposal on Thursday, October 15, ahead of consultation and possible finalisation in December. Approval at the FIFA Congress in March 2027 would then be required. For member associations, the immediate development is therefore a proposed increase in resources for the next cycle, rather than money already authorised for payment.
