Portugal coach Jorge Jesus said Fernandes had arrived with an injury from Manchester United and played despite discomfort against Wales on Thursday. Gakpo came off after 16 minutes of the Netherlands' 2-1 victory over Serbia, holding his lower right leg. Dorgu limped off after 30 minutes as Denmark beat Wales 2-0. The report did not establish recovery timetables for those three players.

The setbacks come during an expanded international window. BBC Sport reported that the September-October break now runs for three weeks, replacing the separate October pause and allowing countries to play four matches rather than two. Liverpool were already dealing with Alexander Isak's withdrawal from Sweden's squad.

In a separate report, BBC Sport confirmed that Isak had returned to Liverpool with a minor injury and would miss Sweden's three remaining fixtures in this international break. The 27-year-old striker is due to be assessed by Liverpool's medical staff. His departure followed a full 90-minute appearance against Romania on Friday, when he scored in Sweden's 2-1 Nations League victory.

Sweden coach Graham Potter described Isak's thigh problem as small, but said the concentration of matches in a short period meant he could not take part in the remaining games. Potter expressed frustration for both the player and the national team. His comments indicated that the decision concerned Sweden's immediate schedule; they did not provide a date for Isak's return to club action.

Isak has scored four goals in five Premier League appearances for Liverpool this season, according to the same BBC report. That follows an injury-disrupted first campaign after his move from Newcastle, when he made 14 league appearances and scored three times. Liverpool's medical assessment will now follow his early return from international duty.
