Tunkhannock's Kyle Kozloski Leads District 2 Charge with Top 100 Freestyle Qualifying Time at PIAA Championships
Sophomore Kyle Kozloski posted the fastest preliminary time in the 100-yard freestyle at 46.71 seconds, leading multiple District 2 swimmers into championship and consolation finals at Bucknell University.

District 2 swimmers delivered exceptional performances during Saturday's preliminary sessions at the PIAA Class 2A Swimming and Diving Championships, with Tunkhannock sophomore Kyle Kozloski leading the regional charge by posting the fastest qualifying time in the 100-yard freestyle at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium.

Kozloski's impressive clocking of 46.71 seconds established him as the swimmer to beat in one of the meet's most competitive events, demonstrating the type of speed that has made him a rising star in Pennsylvania high school swimming. His performance positions him favorably for Saturday evening's championship final, where the top eight qualifiers will compete for state medals.

Donegal junior Colton Houck provided the closest challenge to Kozloski's dominance, touching the wall in 46.90 seconds to secure the second-fastest qualifying time. The narrow 19-hundredths gap between the two swimmers sets up what promises to be an exciting head-to-head battle in the evening's championship session.

The preliminary results reflect the depth and quality of District 2's swimming programs, with multiple athletes advancing to both championship and consolation finals across various events. This broad representation demonstrates the region's commitment to developing competitive swimming talent at the high school level.

Scranton Prep's Lukas Iannone showcased the program's versatility by qualifying fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.73 seconds. While Cathedral Prep senior Jack Raimy claimed the top qualifying position at 49.90, Iannone's performance keeps him well within striking distance of medal contention.

The Scranton Prep program continued its strong showing through teammates Eva Kaszuba and Ella Schofield, who qualified fifth and seventh respectively in the girls' 100 backstroke. Kaszuba's time of 1:05.34 and Schofield's 1:05.85 demonstrate the program's depth while providing multiple medal opportunities for the school.

Relay competitions proved particularly successful for District 2 teams, with Tunkhannock's boys 400 freestyle relay team securing a spot in the championship final with the fifth-best qualifying time of 3:14.98. Although Schuylkill Valley claimed the top seed at 3:12.17, Tunkhannock's position keeps them competitive for a podium finish.

Dallas contributed to the district's relay success by qualifying their girls' 400 freestyle team for the championship final in eighth place with a time of 3:40.71. This achievement reflects the team's collective preparation and tactical execution during a highly competitive preliminary session.

Multiple District 2 swimmers earned spots in consolation finals, providing additional medal opportunities while showcasing the region's competitive depth. Scranton Prep's Ben Kessler advanced to the B final in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.72, maintaining his medal hopes despite missing the championship heat.

Eelk Lake's Brynn Warriner qualified 12th in the 100 freestyle at 53.76, followed closely by Scranton Prep's Rebecca Oakes in 14th at 53.83 and Dallas' Macie Stauffer in 16th at 54.02. These performances highlight the competitive balance within District 2's swimming community.

Distance events proved successful for Dallas swimmers, with Locklynn Bienkowski earning ninth place in the 500 freestyle at 5:14.57 and Maria-Lucia Priore finishing 15th in the 100 backstroke at 1:01.18. These results demonstrate the program's ability to develop swimmers across multiple stroke specialties.

Several District 2 athletes narrowly missed advancement to finals competition while still delivering respectable performances. North Pocono's Alexandra Johnson finished 19th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:08.18, while Lake-Lehman's Connor Runquist placed 25th in the 500 freestyle at 5:00.21.

The championship finals begin at 4:30 p.m. for boys' events, followed by girls' competition at 7:00 p.m., providing District 2 swimmers with multiple opportunities to claim state medals. The evening sessions promise intense competition as qualifiers attempt to improve their morning times while pursuing championship honors.

District 2's strong preliminary showing reflects years of dedicated training and coaching excellence across multiple programs, positioning the region for potential medal success during Saturday evening's championship and consolation finals at this prestigious state-level competition.
