West Ham condemn divisive chant about Manor Solomon
West Ham have called on supporters to stop a chant about winger Manor Solomon that the club described as offensive and divisive. The appeal followed the Hammers' Championship opener at Burnley.

West Ham have urged supporters to stop singing a chant about winger Manor Solomon after it was heard during the club's opening Championship fixture at Burnley. BBC Sport reported that the club described the chant as offensive and divisive and said it contained an anti-Palestine message.

Watch the highlights:

According to the BBC report, a section of West Ham's travelling support sang the chant during Sunday's 2-2 draw at Turf Moor. Solomon, an Israel international who recently joined West Ham from Tottenham, made his debut for the club in that match.

West Ham issued their response before Saturday's first home league game of the season against Charlton. In its statement, the club reminded supporters that they have a responsibility to represent West Ham appropriately and said every fan acts as an ambassador for the club.

The statement also emphasized that people throughout West Ham's diverse support should be able to attend matches without fear, discrimination or abuse. The club said it remains committed to ensuring that everyone at its games feels safe, respected and included.

West Ham acknowledged that singing and chanting are longstanding parts of the matchday experience and encouraged fans to support the team and its players loudly. However, it asked them not to do so in a manner that divides supporters or causes offence to others in the crowd. The club's intervention focused specifically on conduct among its own fans following the Burnley fixture.

Solomon, 27, has been capped 49 times by Israel. Before signing for West Ham, he had loan spells with Fulham and Leeds while contracted to Tottenham. He helped Leeds win the Championship in the 2024-25 season and previously won three titles during his time with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. His arrival at West Ham preceded the club's first Championship campaign fixture, with the winger appearing in the draw at Burnley.
