Falcons say no new logo was introduced after retro image draws criticism
Atlanta says its social-media update was not a new logo after the retro design drew comparisons to Nazi-era imagery. The reaction comes before a scheduled throwback-uniform game against San Francisco.

The Atlanta Falcons have said they have not introduced a new team logo after a retro image posted on their social-media accounts prompted comparisons to Nazi-era imagery. NBC News reported that a team representative made that clarification on Thursday, October 22, but declined to comment further on the response to the graphic.

Watch the highlights:

Atlanta shared the image on Wednesday as a change to its profile picture. The design placed a vintage falcon against a striped background, and users on X responded with criticism and World War II-themed jokes. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the bird came from the franchise's early years in the 1960s and 1970s, rather than being an entirely new emblem.

The distinction matters because some coverage described the post as a logo launch. FOX 5 reported that the team had not announced a new official logo or explained the purpose of the profile-picture design. It also noted that a previous Falcons profile-picture change in September 2024 had attracted similar online comparisons. The latest reaction therefore concerns how an existing symbol was presented, not a confirmed replacement for the team's identity.

The club's own uniform schedule provides context for the timing. Published in September, it lists throwback jerseys for the October 25 home game against the San Francisco 49ers and again for the December 6 meeting with the Detroit Lions. Those are the only two throwback dates on the schedule. The Falcons also announced nine appearances in red jerseys and six in white for the 2026 season.

Sports-logo historian Chris Creamer told NBC News that teams commonly change their social-media profile images to match throwback uniforms. He did not believe the Falcons intended a Nazi association, while questioning why the graphic remained after the negative reaction. That was his assessment of the design and its reception, rather than an explanation provided by the club.

The scheduled use of throwback uniforms is confirmed, but a direct connection between Sunday's outfit and the profile-picture update remains unconfirmed by Atlanta, according to FOX 5. The team's response reported by NBC was limited to clarifying that there was no new logo.
