FA considers action after Manchester City financial-rules verdict
The FA says it is reviewing the implications of the Manchester City ruling and will act where appropriate. City dispute the findings and intend to appeal.

The Football Association said on Friday it was examining the implications of the independent commission's decision against Manchester City and would act if appropriate. In a statement published on 2 October, the governing body raised concerns about the ruling's significance for football's integrity, while making clear that proceedings involving the club and the Premier League remain ongoing.

The FA said it would keep developments under close review but would not offer further comment at this stage. Its statement did not announce a charge or sanction. The Guardian reported that the FA would wait for the appeal process to finish before deciding on action.

The Premier League announced on 29 September that the commission had upheld all charges concerning serious financial-rule breaches across nine seasons, along with most allegations of failure to cooperate with its investigation. According to the league's account, the financial findings cover the period from 2009/10 to 2017/18 and include inaccurate accounts and arrangements that overstated income or understated costs.

The league said the commission found those arrangements altered the presentation of City's finances by more than £900 million during the affected period. It also said accurate reporting would have shown substantial breaches of both Premier League and UEFA spending limits. Three of four alleged breaches relating to cooperation with the investigation were upheld, according to the league's published summary.

City reject the findings. In their own statement, the club maintained their innocence and said evidence supported their position. They said they would pursue available appeals because they believed the decision contained significant factual and legal errors. City also stressed that important parts of the process remained unfinished and said future proceedings limited what they could say publicly about the case.

The Premier League set Friday, 2 October as the deadline for City to exercise their appeal right. It said sanctions would be considered separately at a further commission hearing, with that stage remaining confidential until publication is permitted. The FA's intervention therefore comes while both the challenge to the findings and the question of punishment remain unresolved.
