Nashville Predators Clinch Playoff Spot with Emotional 5-2 Victory Over Calgary Flames in Roman Josi's Return
Captain Roman Josi scored twice in his first game back from injury as Nashville secured their postseason berth with a dominant home victory.

The Nashville Predators secured their place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Friday night at Bridgestone Arena, defeating the Calgary Flames 5-2 in an emotional victory that was highlighted by captain Roman Josi scoring twice in his first game back from a month-long absence due to a lower-body injury that had threatened to derail their playoff push.

Josi was absolutely spectacular in his return to the lineup, recording two goals and three assists in a performance that reminded everyone why he is considered one of the premier defensemen in the NHL. The Swiss superstar opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period before adding another goal in the third period that sealed the victory and sent the 17,159 fans in attendance into a playoff-bound celebration.

It feels incredible to be back on the ice with my teammates and to help clinch a playoff spot makes it even more special, Josi said during his post-game interview. This team never gave up while I was out, and they kept us in position to make the playoffs. Now we have to keep building momentum and get ready for what should be an exciting postseason.

The victory moves Nashville to 43-28-3 on the season and officially clinches their first playoff berth since 2022, when they were eliminated in the first round by the Colorado Avalanche. The Predators had struggled through much of the season without their captain, but his return has provided an immediate boost to both their power play and overall team confidence.

Nashville coach John Hynes praised his teams resilience throughout a challenging season that included significant injuries to key players and a coaching change that saw him replace Peter Laviolette midway through the campaign. Roman presence changes everything for our team, Hynes said. His leadership on and off the ice is invaluable, and to have him back healthy for the stretch run gives us a real chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

The Predators received strong supporting performances from Filip Forsberg, who recorded two assists, and goaltender Juuse Saros, who made 31 saves to earn his 35th victory of the season. The Finnish netminder has been outstanding all season and will be crucial to Nashville playoff hopes as they prepare to face some of the most potent offensive teams in the Western Conference.

Calgary, which entered the game still fighting for a playoff spot, received goals from Jonathan Huberdeau and Elias Lindholm but could not generate enough sustained pressure to overcome Nashville early lead. The Flames now face an uphill battle to reach the postseason with just eight games remaining in the regular season.

With their playoff spot secured, Nashville can now focus on improving their seeding and building chemistry with their full roster healthy for the first time all season. Josi return provides optimism that this veteran core may have one more deep playoff run left in them.
