Terence Crawford Defeats Errol Spence Jr. by TKO in Round 9 to Unify Welterweight Titles
The Nebraska native becomes the undisputed welterweight champion with a devastating performance in Las Vegas, dropping Spence three times before the referee stops the fight.

Terence Crawford delivered a masterclass performance to defeat Errol Spence Jr. by technical knockout in the ninth round at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night, becoming the undisputed welterweight champion in one of boxing's most anticipated unification bouts. Crawford dropped Spence three times in the fight, with the final knockdown prompting referee Harvey Dock to wave off the contest at 2:32 of the ninth round.

The victory caps off a remarkable career achievement for Crawford, who now holds all four major welterweight titles (WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO) and solidifies his position as one of boxing's elite pound-for-pound fighters. The 36-year-old from Nebraska showed superior ring IQ, timing, and power throughout the bout, systematically breaking down his previously unbeaten opponent.

"This is what I've been working toward my entire career," Crawford said during the post-fight interview. "Errol is a great champion and a warrior, but tonight was my night. I showed levels in there, and I hope the fans appreciated the performance. Being undisputed champion is a dream come true."

Crawford established control early in the fight, using his southpaw stance and superior footwork to create angles that troubled Spence throughout the contest. The turning point came in the seventh round when Crawford landed a perfectly timed left uppercut that sent Spence to the canvas for the first time in his professional career.

Spence showed tremendous heart by getting up from the knockdown, but Crawford's relentless pressure and precision punching continued to take their toll. The second knockdown came in the eighth round from a devastating left hook to the body, and the final knockdown in the ninth round was the result of a perfectly placed right hook that left Spence unable to continue.

"Terence was the better man tonight," Spence said graciously in defeat. "He showed why he's one of the best fighters in the world. I'll be back, but tonight belongs to him. Congratulations to Terence and his team on a great performance."

The victory extends Crawford's perfect professional record to 40-0 with 31 knockouts, while Spence suffers his first professional loss and drops to 28-1. Crawford's performance was particularly impressive given that many experts considered this the toughest test of his career against an elite welterweight champion.

With the welterweight division now unified under Crawford's reign, speculation immediately turned to potential super-fights with champions from other weight classes. Names like Canelo Alvarez, Gervonta Davis, and even a potential move up to junior middleweight were mentioned as possible next opponents.

Crawford's promoter Bob Arum praised his fighter's performance and hinted at big plans for 2026. "Terence showed tonight why he's special," Arum said. "We have some major fights in mind for him, and being undisputed champion opens up a lot of exciting possibilities. The boxing world is Terence's oyster right now."
