Joelinton ruled out as Newcastle assess injury and Jaissle cites club support
Newcastle have confirmed Joelinton is unavailable through injury, with no recovery timetable set. Matthias Jaissle also says he feels support from inside the club after a difficult run of results.

Newcastle United have confirmed that Joelinton will miss the match against Fulham through injury, with the length of his absence still to be established. In comments published by the club from Thursday's media briefing, head coach Matthias Jaissle said a treatment plan had yet to be finalised for the midfielder.

Watch the highlights:

Joelinton's absence adds to a midfield restriction already imposed by Jacob Ramsey's suspension. Ramsey must serve a one-match ban after being sent off against Everton. Newcastle also reported that Matias Fernandez-Pardo had resumed training following a virus that kept him out for more than two weeks, although Jaissle said his physical condition still needed to be assessed before any return.

The club's update also brought encouragement over Lewis Miley, with Jaissle reporting progress in his recovery. The coach said the squad had collectively reviewed Monday's defeat in detail. He also praised Sean Steur's development and said Newcastle needed to find opportunities for him to play more minutes as that progress continued.

The injury news comes during a difficult spell for Jaissle, who replaced Eddie Howe in the summer. According to BBC Sport, Newcastle's 1-0 home defeat by Everton left them 13th in the Premier League with 11 points from nine matches. Supporters booed at the final whistle, and Everton had also eliminated Newcastle from the Carabao Cup in their previous game.

BBC Sport reported that Newcastle had won only twice in seven matches, a sequence that included defeats by Leeds United, Coventry City and Aston Villa. Asked about pressure on his position, Jaissle said he had felt stronger commitment from people inside the club. He described that reassurance as important while saying he was trying to avoid distractions.

Jaissle also defended the players' understanding of his approach after previously saying they had not followed the plan against Everton. He told the BBC that the group remained united and that players could raise anything they found unclear with him. His account of the training ground was of a squad that understood his ideas and remained committed to them.
