F1 Drivers Granted Extra Practice Time for Miami GP Sprint Weekend
Formula 1 drivers will benefit from increased practice time at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix sprint weekend after the FIA announced a significant schedule adjustment. The governing body has approved additional track time to help teams prepare for the unique demands of sprint events.
Under the revised format, teams will receive an extra 30-minute practice session on Friday morning before the qualifying hour. This addition addresses long-standing concerns from drivers and team principals about limited preparation time during sprint weekends.
"This change acknowledges the challenges drivers face with sprint format scheduling," said an FIA spokesperson. "We want to ensure competitive and fair racing."
Drivers have repeatedly voiced frustrations about insufficient practice opportunities, particularly at venues like Miami where track conditions can be unpredictable. The hard-braking zones and aggressive kerbs demand extensive seat time that previous formats did not accommodate.
Team principals welcomed the announcement, with several suggesting the extra running could lead to closer qualifying battles and more unpredictable sprint races. "Every lap counts in Miami," one team principal noted. "This gives us more data to work with."
The Miami GP returns to the calendar with the revised format beginning next week, with drivers eager to take advantage of the additional track time ahead of what promises to be another thrilling sprint weekend.
