Ezra Caudell Remains Hospitalized After Philadelphia Cycling Classic Crash

American cyclist Ezra Caudell remains hospitalized after sustaining multi-system trauma in a crash during Sunday’s Philadelphia Cycling Classic, according to reporting by The Guardian. Modern Adventure Pro Cycling issued an update on Tuesday evening saying the 19-year-old was actively receiving care, two days after the accident.

Caudell was involved in a collision with Belgian rider Milan Menten of Lotto-Intermarché early in the men’s race. The Guardian, citing the Philadelphia Inquirer, reported that Caudell was knocked unconscious and that both riders were taken to local hospitals. No further details about the nature of Caudell’s injuries or his prognosis have been released.

Modern Adventure said Caudell had a medical team working on his care and that members of his family were at his bedside. The team also thanked those who had expressed support. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said after the race that city officials were monitoring the condition of two cyclists who required hospital treatment and acknowledged the response of city first responders and on-site medical staff.

Lotto-Intermarché had not publicly provided details about Menten’s condition at the time of The Guardian’s report. That leaves the full medical impact of the collision unclear, and neither team had announced a timetable for the riders’ recovery.

Caudell, a Georgia native, has built a notable record during the 2026 season. He finished fourth in the under-23 road race at the United States national championships in June, then placed seventh in the elite men’s road race the following day. He also raced in Europe, becoming the youngest rider in the Paris-Roubaix field in April and finishing 121st on his debut. His schedule has also included the Arctic Race of Norway and the Tour of Denmark.

The Philadelphia Cycling Classic returned last weekend following a decade-long absence. The course ran through central Philadelphia and beside the Schuylkill River before taking in the race’s traditional climb through Manayunk. Caudell’s Modern Adventure teammate Ben Oliver finished seventh in the men’s race, but attention afterward turned to the hospitalized riders and the limited updates on their conditions.
