Everton beat Newcastle 3-1 to book Fleetwood cup quarter-final
James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry scored as Everton eliminated Newcastle from the Carabao Cup. David Moyes' side will visit Fleetwood Town in the quarter-finals.

Everton secured a Carabao Cup quarter-final trip to Fleetwood Town by beating Newcastle United 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday. James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry scored before Dan Burn's late reply, with Everton's match report confirming their place in the last eight.

Watch the highlights:

Garner broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, finishing from outside the penalty area. Everton reported that Tyrique George forced Amar Dedic to surrender possession before Hackney helped the ball towards the scorer. Hackney then added the second before half-time, meeting Barry's delivery for his first Everton goal following his summer arrival from Middlesbrough.

Newcastle changed three players at the interval, bringing on Yoane Wissa, Joelinton and Anthony Elanga. Everton's account described the visitors pushing forward after the restart but being held off by the home defence. Hackney, who had been booked, subsequently made way for Harrison Armstrong after contributing both a goal and an assist on only his third start for the club.

Barry extended the advantage in the 69th minute after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall advanced down the left and supplied the striker. According to 101 Great Goals, Newcastle could not beat Jordan Pickford until Burn headed in during the 88th minute. By then, the visitors were three goals behind, and the defender's finish did not prevent their elimination from the competition they won in 2025.

The victory came without Jack Grealish, whom Everton had declared unavailable because of a disciplinary breach. The club's team announcement also confirmed that Jarrad Branthwaite missed a second successive match under concussion protocols. David Moyes brought Hackney and Tyler Dibling into the starting side in place of Armstrong and Brennan Johnson, with George and Dibling taking the wide attacking roles.

Fleetwood await after eliminating Arsenal on penalties following a 1-1 draw, 101 Great Goals reported. The League Two side will host Everton in a quarter-final scheduled for the week beginning December 14. Before that cup assignment, Everton face Newcastle again: their next match is an away Premier League meeting on Monday night.
