Evanilson inspires Bournemouth breakthrough as ten-man Sunderland lose again
Evanilson created the opener and scored the second as Bournemouth secured their first Premier League win of the season. Sunderland suffered a fourth straight league defeat after Kevin Danso was sent off.

Bournemouth earned their first Premier League victory of the season against Sunderland on Sunday, with Evanilson setting up Marcus Tavernier's opener before scoring himself. The result also gave Marco Rose his first league win as Bournemouth manager, according to The Guardian's match report, while Sunderland remained in the bottom three after a fourth consecutive league defeat.

Watch the highlights:

The hosts took advantage of an unsettled Sunderland defence from the outset. Lewis Cook moved the ball forward and Evanilson capitalised on confusion between Kevin Danso and Omar Alderete. Rather than attempt the finish himself, the Brazilian supplied Tavernier, who headed Bournemouth in front. Sunderland's problems deepened in the 17th minute when Danso brought down Evanilson after the striker got beyond him. Referee Craig Pawson dismissed the defender for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Bournemouth continued to create chances against the ten men, forcing goalkeeper Robin Roefs to intervene repeatedly before the interval. Rayan and Evanilson found room in attack, but the hosts still had to protect their advantage. The Guardian reported that Bournemouth had already dropped nine points from winning positions this season, making the opening goal and numerical advantage no guarantee of a breakthrough result.

Evanilson eventually supplied the second goal after another Sunderland defensive error. Alderete's misplaced back-pass presented the opportunity, and the forward wrong-footed Roefs before finishing into the unguarded net. Bournemouth had attempted 29 shots by the 70th minute, according to the report, while a Rayan header was cleared off the line as they sought to extend their lead.

Both managers had made five changes following Thursday's Europa League matches. Sunderland restored Granit Xhaka after facing Torreense, while Bournemouth brought in James Hill, Adrien Truffert and Rayan after beating Sturm Graz. Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey was absent after appearing on the bench in Portugal following an injury on international duty. Timur Tutierov started up front but was substituted before the hour.

Sunderland produced a late spell of pressure, but Bournemouth retained possession to see out the victory. The visitors have now gone without a league win since August. For Bournemouth, the result ended their domestic wait before another European assignment, with Milan due to visit on Thursday.
