England seize Edgbaston lead after Pakistan bowled out for 133

England took control of the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, dismissing the tourists for 133 before reaching 156 for four at stumps on the opening day. The Guardian reported that only 73 overs were completed despite a rain interruption lasting just five minutes, with England finishing 23 runs ahead after winning the toss and bowling first.

Pakistan's innings lasted fewer than 34 overs as England's seamers shared the wickets. Josh Tongue claimed four, while Ollie Robinson returned three for 15 and Jofra Archer also took three. Robinson reached 100 Test wickets when he trapped Saim Ayub lbw, becoming the first England bowler since Ian Botham to reach the landmark with a career average below 20.

The visitors were reduced to 48 for five, with each of their top five dismissed for a single-figure score. According to The Guardian, that made Pakistan the first team in Test history to lose all of their top five for single figures in the first innings of a match. Tongue bowled Babar Azam, while Archer removed Azan Awais and Shan Masood.

Saud Shakeel provided the main resistance with 43, but Tongue eventually bowled him with a delivery that moved back into the left-hander. A 26-run final-wicket partnership between Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ali was Pakistan's longest stand of the innings and helped lift the total to 133. Pakistan have yet to reach 200 in the series, which England had already secured by taking a 2-0 lead.

England then encountered early problems of their own. Ben Duckett fell cheaply, Abbas dismissed Jordan Cox lbw and debutant Razaullah removed Joe Root with his fourth ball in Test cricket. Root's dismissal left England 39 for three, giving Pakistan an opening despite their low first-innings total.

Emilio Gay and Harry Brook repaired the innings with a 105-run partnership. Gay made 60 from 114 balls, including nine fours, before Razaullah bowled him late in the day. Brook reached stumps unbeaten on 52, while Razaullah finished the day with two wickets for 42. England will resume on day two holding the lead and with six first-innings wickets remaining.
