England Hand First White-Ball Call-Ups to Donald and Crocombe

England have given first senior white-ball call-ups to Aneurin Donald and Henry Crocombe for this month's six-match home series against Sri Lanka. Sky Sports reported that Donald has been picked for the three Twenty20 internationals, while Crocombe is included in the one-day international squad. Both groups contain 16 players and will be captained by Harry Brook.

Donald, an opening batter for Derbyshire, has earned his chance after strong domestic limited-overs performances. England men's national selector Marcus North said Donald had enjoyed an exceptional season for Derbyshire in the Vitality Blast and for Trent Rockets in The Hundred. The selection is the 29-year-old's first involvement with the senior England side.

Crocombe arrives in the ODI group after taking hat-tricks in each of his past two County Championship matches, against Somerset and Essex. The 24-year-old Sussex seamer was called into England's Test squad as cover during the New Zealand series in June but did not play. According to Sky Sports, he has 49 wickets in 36 domestic 50-over matches, 34 wickets in 35 T20 appearances and more than 100 in red-ball cricket.

Jamie Overton returns to both squads after missing England's T20 and ODI series victories over India in July because of a quad problem sustained at the IPL. Sam Curran, Jacob Bethell and Phil Salt are unavailable with groin, knee and right quad injuries respectively. Brydon Carse has not been selected in either squad.

Jordan Cox and Ben Duckett are among the players named in both formats. Joe Root is included for the ODI series, while Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jos Buttler, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, Adil Rashid and Josh Tongue also feature in both squads. Sussex spin-bowling all-rounder James Coles retains his place in the T20 group after receiving his first call-up for the India series.

The T20 series starts in Southampton on September 15, followed by matches in Cardiff on September 17 and Old Trafford on September 19. The ODI leg will be played at Durham on September 22, Headingley on September 24 and The Oval on September 27. Sri Lanka Cricket separately confirmed that Kusal Mendis and Binura Fernando will miss the T20 series while rehabilitating hamstring and back injuries, with Charith Asalanka appointed captain for that leg.
