Kane and Saka score twice as England beat Croatia 7-0 in Rijeka
England beat Croatia 7-0 in Rijeka on Saturday as Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka scored twice each in Nations League Group A3. Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and Morgan Rogers were also on target, according to Sky Sports' match report.
Watch the highlights:
Kane opened the scoring after eight minutes from Bellingham's pass, before Gordon supplied Bellingham for the second. Gordon then headed in Jarell Quansah's cross to make it 3-0. Saka added a fourth before half-time after another contribution from Bellingham.
The scoring continued after the interval. Elliot Anderson crossed for Kane's second in the 53rd minute, Saka struck again in the 68th and Rogers completed the result in the 87th. Alex Scott made his first England start in Thomas Tuchel's side.
Sky Sports' match statistics recorded 19 attempts for England, with 10 on target, compared with 12 attempts and one on target for Croatia. England also had 63.6 per cent possession. Those figures underline the difference between the teams' ability to turn their attacking opportunities into efforts that tested the goalkeeper.
England's control was also reflected in the passing figures: 682 accurate passes against Croatia's 363, with a completion rate of 91.5 per cent. The visitors registered 48 touches in the opposition penalty area to Croatia's 17 and won six corners to the home side's one, according to the same statistical record.
The result followed England's 2-0 win over Czechia and their opening 3-2 defeat by Spain in this Nations League campaign. Croatia had begun with a 2-1 win against Czechia before losing 4-1 to Spain. Saturday therefore brought a second consecutive victory for England and a second consecutive defeat for Croatia.
The teams had also met at this year's World Cup, when England won 4-2 in Dallas. England Football's official report records two Kane goals, with Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also scoring. That June contest was level at 2-2 at half-time; in Rijeka, England had already established a four-goal lead by the interval.
