Emily Fox signs new Arsenal contract with WSL title still a target

Emily Fox has signed a new contract with Arsenal, extending her stay after a spell that has included European and domestic trophies. BBC Sport reported on Thursday that the United States defender is understood to have agreed a three-year deal. Fox told the broadcaster that remaining at the club was a straightforward choice as she considered both her immediate future and her longer-term development.

The 28-year-old joined Arsenal from North Carolina Courage in 2024 and has since made close to 100 appearances across all competitions. Her first season brought a Women's League Cup winner's medal, followed by the Women's Champions League title in 2025 and the Women's Champions Cup trophy in 2026. She has also earned selection in the PFA team of the year in each of the past two campaigns.

The agreement follows earlier reporting about the time remaining on her previous deal. BBC Sport said in January that Fox had one year left on that contract, while Arsenal remained confident she would stay. The new commitment keeps a full-back who has become an established member of Renee Slegers' side at the club after those trophy-winning seasons.

Explaining her decision, Fox pointed to an environment in which she could continue to improve and be challenged, while also feeling at home. She highlighted Arsenal's investment in women's football and its commitment to the community, alongside the club's history and culture. Those factors were central to her account of why she wanted to continue her career there.

A Women's Super League title remains among Fox's targets. Despite the European success, she told BBC Sport that there was still more she wanted to achieve with Arsenal, including winning further trophies they had already collected. She acknowledged the expectations surrounding the club but said her approach was to concentrate on individual games rather than look too far ahead.

Fox also discussed preparations with the United States under former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes ahead of the 2027 Women's World Cup. She said the Americans would face Spain twice at home in October, with qualification their objective in November. Fox described the variety of opponents and tactical challenges encountered this year as valuable preparation for a team aiming to win the tournament.
