Late Elimbi Gilbert equaliser denies Manchester City first European win
Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 at Manchester City after Tara Elimbi Gilbert answered Khadija Shaw’s late penalty. City have now drawn their opening three Women’s Champions League matches.

Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Paris Saint-Germain at the Joie Stadium on Thursday after Tara Elimbi Gilbert cancelled out Khadija Shaw’s late penalty. According to Manchester City’s official match report, the result extended the hosts’ unbeaten start in the Women’s Champions League but left them still seeking a first victory.

Watch the highlights:

City threatened early through Shaw, who could not finish a cross from Aoba Fujino before sending another effort narrowly wide after Lauren Hemp’s run. The club’s matchday coverage also recorded an early attempt from PSG’s Naomi Feller that Ayaka Yamashita gathered comfortably. Hemp repeatedly helped City advance, although those attacks did not produce an opening goal before the interval.

Andrée Jeglertz changed three players just after the hour, introducing Mary Fowler, Iman Beney and Niamh Charles for Grace Clinton, Kerstin Casparij and Rebecca Knaak. Shaw continued to threaten, heading wide from a Hemp cross before eventually winning and converting the penalty. The Guardian reported that Shaw scored in the 85th minute, with Elimbi Gilbert equalising three minutes later.

The home side’s greater share of the ball was reflected in the final figures published by City’s matchday service. City finished with 66% possession and five shots on target, compared with PSG’s two. The hosts also won seven corners to the visitors’ one, but that advantage in attacking opportunities was not enough to secure all three points.

Elimbi Gilbert’s response came after she broke forward and finished beneath Yamashita. City pushed again following the equaliser, with Jeglertz urging his players upfield as they sought another goal. During stoppage time, Fujino delivered a cross that Fowler met with a header, but PSG goalkeeper Oliwia Peda collected it to help preserve the draw.

City now have three points from three league-phase matches, with Inter Milan, BK Hacken and Austria Wien still to face, the club reported. Their next assignment is back in the Women’s Super League, away to London City Lionesses on Sunday, November 1. Thursday’s draw leaves City’s European campaign unbeaten, but without the victory Shaw’s penalty had briefly put within reach.
