Edinburgh go top of URC with 29-12 bonus-point win at Zebre
Edinburgh moved to the top of the United Rugby Championship table with a 29-12 victory away to Zebre on Saturday, extending their winning start to three matches. Tom Currie's try in the final minute secured the bonus point for Sean Everitt's side, who scored four tries despite having two players sent to the sin-bin during the match.
Watch the highlights:
According to BBC Sport Scotland's report, Edinburgh were dealing with injuries but still emerged with maximum points. Matt Currie, Freddy Douglas and Magnus Bradbury supplied their first three tries before Tom Currie's late contribution. James Grayson completed the visitors' scoring with three conversions and a penalty, while Alessandro Fusco and Giacomo Ferrari scored Zebre's tries and Tommaso Allan added a conversion.
The visitors took the first points through Grayson's penalty, but their early advantage did not last. Winger Malelili Satala received a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on, leaving Edinburgh temporarily a player short. Italy scrum-half Fusco then scored the opening try to put Zebre ahead, forcing the Scottish side to recover from an early deficit on the road.
Matt Currie restored Edinburgh's lead around the half-hour mark, breaking through two defenders to reach the line. The balance shifted further before the interval when Fusco was shown a yellow card. Edinburgh used the attack that followed to send Douglas over from a maul, taking a 15-5 lead into half-time after turning around the hosts' brief advantage.
Edinburgh continued to control possession and territory after the restart, BBC Sport reported. Bradbury added their third try with a powerful finish beneath the posts. Zebre later reduced the gap through Ferrari after replacement Edinburgh hooker Harri Morris was sent to the sin-bin, but the home side could not build that score into a comeback against the visitors.
The bonus point remained to be secured until the closing moments. Edinburgh again made their maul count, this time creating the finish for replacement Tom Currie in the final minute. His score completed a four-try performance and ensured the visitors left with the full reward from their third consecutive victory, taking them into first place in the early-season standings.
