Edgbaston Raises Hollies Stand Ashes Ticket Price 43% to £165

Ticket prices in Edgbaston's Hollies Stand will rise by 43% for the ground's 2027 men's Ashes Test, with seats costing £165 compared with £115 when Australia last visited in 2023. BBC Sport reported the increase as the ballot opened for next summer's five-Test series between England and Australia.

The Birmingham venue will stage the third Test beginning on 8 July. The Hollies Stand accommodates almost 6,000 spectators, while Edgbaston has an overall capacity of 25,000. Elsewhere in the stadium, members can buy tickets for £92, but the least expensive adult seats for each of the opening three days cost £115. A £2.50 booking fee applies to every ticket.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan criticized the rise on social media, describing it as really poor. Edgbaston defended its approach, saying prices for the 2027 Test are broadly comparable with those at other Ashes grounds and major British sporting events. A stadium spokesperson also said its entry-level prices roughly track inflation since 2023 and cited higher operating costs.

BBC Sport noted that prices are higher at the two London venues. The leading ticket categories cost £190 at Lord's and £185 at the Oval. Edgbaston is currently operating at reduced capacity because an on-site hotel is under construction, and tickets priced from £57.50 to £87.50 for the upcoming England-Pakistan Test had not sold out at the time of the report.

Demand was exceptionally strong during the 2023 Ashes. After that series finished 2-2, the England and Wales Cricket Board said every day had sold out in advance and aggregate attendance exceeded 545,000. Australia retained the urn after winning the first two Tests, including the opener at Edgbaston.

England's 2027 attempt to regain the Ashes begins at Trent Bridge on 18 June. Lord's hosts the second Test from 30 June before the series moves to Edgbaston. The fourth Test starts at the Utilita Bowl on 21 July, making Southampton the 10th UK ground to host a men's Ashes Test, and the series concludes at the Kia Oval from 29 July. BBC Sport said it had contacted the ECB and every Test venue for comment.
