Eddie Hearn calls Anthony Joshua comeback the 'ultimate comeback' but warns of 'risk'
Promoter Eddie Hearn has described Anthony Joshua's upcoming return to boxing as the "ultimate comeback" while acknowledging the inherent "risk" involved in the fighter's path back to the top of the sport.
Watch the highlights:
Joshua is preparing for a bout against Kristian Prenga scheduled for July. The former unified world heavyweight champion has been out of the ring since his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
Hearn, who has promoted Joshua throughout much of his professional career, recognizes the significance of this comeback attempt. Joshua held multiple heavyweight world titles between 2016 and 2021, including the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO belts.
The bout against Prenga represents Joshua's opportunity to begin rebuilding his standing in the heavyweight division. Hearn's comments frame the return as both ambitious and challenging, noting the competitive nature of the current heavyweight landscape.
Joshua turned professional in 2013 and has compiled a record that includes notable victories over Wladimir Klitschko in 2017, a rematch win against Andy Ruiz Jr. that same year, and most recently a win against Otto Wallin in December 2023 before the Dubois loss.
