Durham finish unbeaten as Bohannon's 190 secures Lancashire draw

Durham completed an unbeaten County Championship Division Two season with a draw against Lancashire at Old Trafford, finishing 47 points clear of runners-up Kent. Josh Bohannon's unbeaten 190 helped the hosts reach 397-6 in reply to Durham's 493. According to the ECB Reporters' Network account published by BBC Sport, rain and poor light limited the final day to 38 overs.

The result brought Durham 13 points and Lancashire 11, without changing either team's finishing position. Lancashire ended next to bottom with 114 points, 17 ahead of Gloucestershire and 36 behind sixth-placed Derbyshire. While Durham closed their championship-winning campaign without a defeat, Lancashire's final match ended with a substantial innings from Bohannon after a disappointing season for the county.

Lancashire resumed on 267-5, but the morning offered little opportunity to make progress. Bad light and light drizzle delayed the start by 45 minutes, and just 6.1 overs were bowled before conditions deteriorated again. An early lunch was taken at 12:15 BST with the home side on 295-5, still facing a sizeable gap to Durham's first-innings score.

Nearly two hours of afternoon play allowed Lancashire to add 102 runs for the loss of one wicket. Bohannon reached 150 from 321 balls, the seventh time he had passed that mark in his Lancashire career. His eventual unbeaten 190 accounted for more than a third of his season's run aggregate, making this innings a particularly significant contribution to his personal campaign.

Ben Walkden provided support with a career-best 36 in an 83-run sixth-wicket partnership. His innings ended when an attempted pull against Callum Parkinson produced a catch for Brydon Carse at backward point. Lancashire were then 14 runs short of avoiding the follow-on. George Balderson subsequently helped Bohannon take them beyond that threshold in an unbroken partnership worth 66 runs.

The players left the field for bad light at 14:35, with tea brought forward to 14:50. Conditions failed to improve, and a draw was agreed at 15:45. Parkinson finished with 4-92 for Durham, whose first-innings total had included 141 from Gay. There was no further opportunity for either side to turn the final fixture into a victory.
