Dunfermline drawn away to Queen of the South in Scottish Cup third round
Dunfermline Athletic have been drawn away to Queen of the South in the Scottish Cup third round, giving last season’s beaten finalists a trip to Palmerston. BBC Sport reported that Neil Lennon’s Championship side will play the tie on the final weekend in November. Dunfermline lost 3-1 to Celtic in May after reaching their first final in the competition for 19 years.
Watch the highlights:
The draw also sent Championship leaders Partick Thistle to Elgin City. Elsewhere among the second-tier clubs, Livingston were paired away to Clydebank, Greenock Morton will visit Annan Athletic and Queen’s Park will host Spartans. Raith Rovers were given a trip to Troon, while Arbroath were drawn away against Cumnock Juniors. Ayr United’s assignment is another away tie, against fellow Ayrshire club Largs Thistle.
There is a Highlands pairing between Ross County and Brora Rangers, with County at home. County lead League 1 on goal difference from Hamilton Academical, who were drawn away to Montrose. Inverness Caledonian Thistle will host Cove Rangers, while Stenhousemuir were paired at home against East Fife. Those matchups were among the 20 ties listed in BBC Sport’s report of the draw.
Four pairings still contain an unresolved place in the published list. Dumbarton will host either Johnstone Burgh or Formartine United, and East Kilbride will welcome either Penicuik Athletic or Clyde. Airdrieonians face an away tie against Hill of Beath Hawthorn or Musselburgh Athletic, while Renfrew will be at home to Cumbernauld Colts or Banks O’Dee.
Alloa Athletic’s opponents are also yet to be settled in the draw: they will travel to either Threave Rovers or Pollok. The other pairings are Bo’ness United at home to Brechin City, Peterhead hosting Edinburgh City, and Stranraer welcoming Clachnacuddin. Those fixtures complete the third-round list alongside the ties involving last season’s runners-up and the current Championship and League 1 leaders.
For Dunfermline, the draw establishes the next cup assignment after their run to May’s final. Their return to the competition’s final last season ended against Celtic; this time, the confirmed third-round route takes Lennon’s team away from home to face Queen of the South.
