Dudeney wins three-set battle as British trio reach Wrexham quarter-finals
Alicia Dudeney extended her winning streak to seven matches with a three-set victory over Susan Bandecchi. Jodie Burrage and Hannah Klugman also reached the Wrexham Open quarter-finals as top seed Anna Blinkova went out.

Alicia Dudeney survived a second-round contest lasting almost three hours to reach the Wrexham Open quarter-finals, joining fellow British players Jodie Burrage and Hannah Klugman in the last eight. According to BBC Sport, all three advanced on Thursday at the Wrexham Tennis and Padel Centre, while top seed Anna Blinkova was eliminated from the World Tennis Tour W100 event.

Watch the highlights:

Dudeney defeated Switzerland's seventh seed Susan Bandecchi 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 in two hours and 51 minutes, extending her winning streak to seven matches. After taking the opening set, she lost the second on a tie-break before securing the deciding set. Her reward is a quarter-final against French player Elsa Jacquemot on Friday.

Klugman followed Dudeney into the Carden Park Arena and needed two sets to overcome higher-ranked Czech opponent Anna Siskova, winning 6-2 6-4. The 17-year-old, ranked 341, reached last year's French Open junior girls' final. She now faces Slovakia's Rebecca Sramkova, who is seeded sixth in Wrexham.

Burrage completed the British trio's progress by beating fourth seed Noma Noha Akugue 6-1 7-6 (11-9). Having won the opening set comfortably, she secured the match through a much closer second-set tie-break. Fifth seed Marina Bassols Ribera awaits her in the quarter-finals after the Spaniard defeated Australia's Lizette Cabrera to book her own place.

Elsewhere in the draw, Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands produced a straight-sets upset against Blinkova. The top seed, ranked 72 in the world, lost 6-3 6-2 in the second round. Her departure came on a day when Dudeney and Burrage also overcame seeded opposition, with both British players progressing through matches that included tie-breaks.

The three home players remain in contention without defending champion Mimi Xu in this year's field. BBC Sport reported that the Swansea player chose to compete at the W75 Saguenay tournament in Canada instead. Wrexham's singles quarter-finals are scheduled for Friday, 23 October, followed by the semi-finals on Saturday and the final on Sunday; the doubles final is also scheduled for Sunday.
