Donnarumma Howler Hands Arsenal Lifeline as Havertz Pounces on Man City Keeper Error in Champions League Classic
Gianluigi Donnarumma's costly mistake proved decisive as Arsenal mounted a dramatic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in a thrilling Champions League encounter.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluum Donnarumma was left red-faced after a calamitous error allowed Kai Havertz to equalise for Arsenal in what turned out to be a pulsating Champions League semi-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Watch the highlights:

The Italy international was punished for a misjudgement in the box as Havertz positioned himself perfectly to poach the leveller from close range after Man City loanee Stefan Ortega had been caught out by the bounce of the ball. Donnarumma's hesitation proved costly as the German international nipped in to bundle home, sending the home crowd into raptures and swinging the momentum firmly in Arsenal's favour.

The goal came against the run of play, with PSG having dominated the opening stages through Ousmane Dembele's early strike. The French champions had looked comfortable before Donnarumma's moment of madness changed the complexion of the tie entirely.

Mikel Arteta's side pushed for a winner in the closing stages and thought they had found one when Bukayo Saka converted from a tight angle, only for the goal to be ruled out following a VAR review for a marginal offside in the build-up. The decision sparked heated debates among the home faithful, who felt hard done by.

Speaking after the match, Arteta acknowledged the importance of the result: "These moments in Champions League football define seasons. The players showed incredible character to come back after going behind."

PSG boss Luis Enrique defended his goalkeeper: "These things happen in football. Gigi is a world-class keeper and he will bounce back. We are still in this tie."

The result leaves the semi-final finely poised ahead of next week's return leg at the Parc des Princes, where PSG will need to overturn the deficit to reach the final in Munich.
