Docherty demands Charlton improvement at The Valley to steer clear of relegation

Steve Docherty has warned that Charlton Athletic must transform their home form if they are to avoid the drop into League Two. The Addicks currently sit 19th in League One, just five points above the relegation zone with three matches remaining, and their home record has been a significant concern throughout the campaign.

"We've been far too inconsistent at The Valley," Docherty admitted. "Our home form has let us down badly this season. We need to make this stadium a fortress again, and we have three finals now to prove ourselves."

Charlton have won just eight of their 21 home league matches this season, collecting 28 of their 51 points on their own turf. Their goal difference at home stands at -4, a stark contrast to their more respectable away record.

The critical run-in begins with a crucial clash against Oxford United on Saturday, followed by matches against Cambridge United and Burton Albion. Docherty believes the support of the home crowd could prove decisive.

"The fans have been incredible, even when results haven't gone our way. But we need to give them something to shout about. Three wins would guarantee our safety, and that's the target."

Striker Mason Burstow remains a doubt with a hamstring injury, while midfielder Corey Blackett-Taylor is expected to return after missing the last two games through illness. Charlton's fate could be decided by their ability to grind out results in front of their own supporters.
