Divine Mukasa scores twice as West Ham beat Wolves 4-2

Divine Mukasa scored twice as West Ham defeated Wolves 4-2 at London Stadium in the Championship on Tuesday. The Guardian reported that Jarrod Bowen converted a penalty and Konstantinos Mavropanos added the hosts’ fourth goal, while Marshall Munetsi and a Mavropanos own goal accounted for Wolves’ response.

Wolves had more of the early play, but West Ham moved in front through a spectacular first goal for the club from Mukasa. The teenage summer signing, on loan from Manchester City, struck from about 25 yards, with the ball flying in off the underside of the crossbar after Kyle Walker-Peters had advanced beyond the visitors’ defensive line.

West Ham doubled their lead seven minutes later. Joel Piroe’s footwork drew a late challenge from André inside the penalty area, and Bowen scored from the resulting spot kick. Wolves reduced the deficit before half-time when a deflection opened space for Munetsi, who carried the ball forward, cut inside Mavropanos and finished beyond goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Mukasa restored West Ham’s two-goal advantage shortly after the interval. Bowen played a through ball toward the edge of the penalty area, Pablo allowed it to run, and Mukasa shifted the ball onto his left foot before shooting. His effort took a deflection off Wolves captain Toti Gomes and beat José Sá.

Mavropanos then made it 4-1 after West Ham again showed their efficiency in front of goal. Bowen’s drive was saved following a combination with Taty Castellanos, and Arne Engels delivered the subsequent corner. Mavropanos headed against the crossbar but reacted to volley the rebound into the net. Six minutes later, the defender got the final touch on Jackson Tchatchoua’s cross and diverted it into his own goal.

According to The Guardian, Wolves held possession for stretches and received energetic contributions from Tchatchoua and Mateus Mané, but did not create another chance after their second goal. The result gave West Ham a valuable home victory following both clubs’ relegation to the Championship and eased some of the pressure surrounding manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
