DiMaria scores six as USA beat Samoa 17-0 in record World Cup win
Maddie DiMaria scored six goals as the United States opened the Under-17 Women's World Cup with a record 17-0 victory over Samoa. Ten American players found the net.

The United States opened their 2026 Under-17 Women's World Cup campaign with a 17-0 victory over Samoa in Morocco on Monday, with Maddie DiMaria scoring six times. FIFA reported that the result exceeded the 16-0 win by Morocco over New Caledonia at the men's Under-17 World Cup, establishing a new record winning margin at a global finals.

Watch the highlights:

DiMaria put the Americans ahead after 63 seconds, according to Concacaf's match report. Mia Corona added the second goal before DiMaria struck in the 18th and 20th minutes to complete her hat-trick. Loradana Paletta and Grace Murray then scored, and DiMaria had her fourth by the half-hour mark as the United States took control of their Group E opener.

Paletta scored again before Amari Manning made it 9-0 in first-half stoppage time. The scoring continued after the interval, with Deus Stanislaus and Carolina Reyna among those finding the net. DiMaria added her fifth and sixth goals in the 70th and 73rd minutes, while Reyna finished with two goals. Ten American players scored across the match.

U.S. Soccer said DiMaria's six goals were a record for a player representing a U.S. women's national team at any level. They also lifted her career total in the Under-17 Women's World Cup to seven, following a goal in the 2025 tournament. That surpassed the previous American competition record of five held by Gina DiMartino from the inaugural edition in 2008.

The federation's match statistics showed 58 shots for the United States and none for Samoa, with Samoa goalkeeper Susahna Peacock recording 13 saves. Paletta supplied three assists in addition to her two goals, and Manning contributed two assists. Samoa were making their second appearance in the competition after their debut in 2025, which was also the country's first FIFA tournament.

The United States next meet Kenya on October 22 in their second Group E fixture. Kenya lost 3-0 to China in the group's other opening match, leaving the Americans ahead on goal difference after the first round of games, according to U.S. Soccer.
