DeChambeau Withdraws from LIV Golf Mexico City Due to Illness
Bryson DeChambeau has withdrawn from the LIV Golf Mexico City tournament midway through his second round, citing a severe stomach illness that forced him to abandon the competition at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

Bryson DeChambeau's highly anticipated return to competitive golf has come to an abrupt end after the 2020 U.S. Open champion withdrew from the LIV Golf Mexico City tournament midway through his second round on Saturday. DeChambeau cited a severe stomach illness that forced him to abandon the competition at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

Watch the highlights:

The 31-year-old American was playing his first event since February and had opened with a 1-under 71 in the first round. However, during his second round, after completing 16 holes at 4-over par, DeChambeau decided he could no longer continue and officially withdrew from the tournament.

The timing of the withdrawal is particularly concerning given that the Masters Tournament at Augusta National is now just two weeks away. DeChambeau has been building his preparation for the year's first major, and this setback comes at an inopportune moment in his schedule.

"Bryson informed our officials that he became violently ill during his second round and was unable to continue," said a LIV Golf official. "We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can return to competition soon."

DeChambeau's withdrawal leaves him well back in the field at the Mexico City event, which features 48 players competing for the $20 million purse. With this result, his weekend is cut short as he focuses on recovering in time for the Masters.

The two-time major champion had looked sharp in practice sessions leading up to this event, and his early first-round performance suggested he was finding good form. The stomach illness appears to have struck without warning, derailing his momentum.

DeChambeau has had previous success at Augusta National, where he has two top-10 finishes in his career. He will be hoping to recover quickly and regain his form ahead of the most prestigious tournament in golf. His withdrawal marks a frustrating development as he looks to build momentum heading into the Masters.
